Wildermyth review
Wildermyth is a procedurally-generated RPG that is character-driven, meaning that your choices have consequences. It is designed to feel like an RPG that you can play on a tabletop with your friends. It is a game all about choices.
Gameplay
Gameplay consists of three distinct parts. The first part is exploration. Exploration is an opportunity for you to uncover mysteries on the map, which may unlock new quests. The second part is combat. Combat takes place on an interactive battlefield- you can use the environment to your advantage, and keep your enemies guessing. The third part is storytelling. Storytelling is an opportunity to catch up with your heroes and find out what they've been up to. Wildermyth is a tactical RPG. Combat is turn-based, with the player inputting commands for every turn for each hero. The game is played out on a grid-based map, with the player controlling one side of the battlefield. Heroes are unique and have their own skills and abilities, but the player's choices and combat skills are what decide their paths and outcomes. All heroes die someday, but you get to keep favorite heroes alive to play with in the next adventure.
Graphics
Graphics in Wildermyth consist of a mix of 2D and 3D. The 2D side of the game is done in a 16-bit style reminiscent of SNES era games. The 3D side of the game is done in a 32-bit style reminiscent of 3D games from the 90s.
